Major and Minor Offences

The following are other minor offences and major offences and their consequences that
the school will take disciplinary action.

A student who commits any major offences will be referred to HOD PM immediately.

Students who are recalcitrant will be referred to the Principal/Vice-Principal. A male pupil
will be caned 1-3 strokes and a female pupil will be suspended from school for 3-5 days.

All students are not allowed to have in their possession any weapon. They are also not allowed to bring any weapon-like item which is used or intended to be used to cause harm to others.

3 Use of handphone and  other unauthorised electronic and mobile devices during curriculum time
  • 1st offence – Confiscated by teacher, passed to PM OE and returned after school at 1.45pm outside HOD room + teacher informs parents
  • 2nd offence – Confiscated by teacher, passed to PM OE and returned after school at 1.45pm of the following day outside HOD room + teacher informs parents
  • 3rd offence – Confiscated by teacher, passed to PM OE and returned after school at 1.45pm one week later outside  HOD room + teacher informs parents
  • 4th offence onwards – Confiscated by teacher, passed to PM OE and returned at 1.45pm two weeks later outside HOD room+ teacher informs parents + device to be collected from school by parents
 4  Late-coming before 8am
  • 1st and 2nd offence – One hour detention on the same day + parents informed through school SMS system
  • 3rd offence – Two hours detention on the same day + form teacher works with parents to work out corrective actions
  • 4th offence onwards – Referred to HOD SM / LH SM for further action
 5  Late-coming after 8am
  • 1st and 2nd  offence – Interview before being allowed back to class + two hours detention on the same day + parents informed through school SMS system
  • 3rd offence – Interview before being allowed back to class + three hours detention on the same day + form teacher works with parents to work out corrective actions
  • 4th offence – Referred to HOD SM / LH SM for further action
 6  Unsupervised consumption of food and
drinks outside the canteen.
 Food to be disposed of in the presence of the teacher.
 7  Skipping lesson / remedial / supple-mentary /
enrichment programmes without valid reasons
or leaving school grounds without permission
for the first time
 Two hours detention
 8  Attempt to be absent / absent from school
without valid reason for the first time.
 Four hours detention
 9  Damage / breaking of any school property
  •  Four hours detention
  • Make restitution

Students who do not report for detention will have an additional hour of detention added. Students with repeated minor offences will be subjected to more severe consequences in discussion with parents and the school.

Major Offences

2  Forgery (eg. signatures, altering MCs,

3  Silent defiance and rudeness to teachers / school staff
4  Skipping lesson / remedial / supplementary / enrichment
programmes without valid reasons or leaving school grounds
without permission for the second time
5  Attempt to be absent / absent from school without valid reason
for the second time.
6  Smoking/possession of cigarettes, tobacco, lighters or matches
  • Three strokes of cane for boys
  • Three days suspension for girls
  • HSA report
7  Acts of mischief (vandalism)
  • Three strokes of cane for boys
  • Three days suspension for girls
  • Self-reflection
  • Counselling follow-up
8  All forms of bullying
9  Abuse of technology
10  Open defiance to teacher/school staff (eg. challenge
a teacher verbally or in action)
11  Theft/shoplifting inside or outside school/
Misappropriation of Property
12  Gambling (includes possession of gambling cards)
13  Pornography (consumption/possession/distribution/
sale of  pornographic materials)
14  Possession/consumption of narcotic drugs/alcohol
15  Arson
16  Assault and fighting (includes all participants in the fight
and student spectators who encourage or condone the fight)
17 Rioting/unlawful assembly
18 Extortion
19 Involvement in secret society activities
20 Other criminal offences
21 Police cases and activities in public that tarnish school image (includes inappropriate behaviour)

The school reserves the right to carry out the following consequences in addition to the above-mentioned
on a case-by-case basis and involve the police whenever necessary:

•  Verbal / Written Apology (Private / Public)
•  Counseling
•  Detention
•  In-house Suspension
•  Community Service
•  Special Projects
•  Self-Reflection
•  Removal from any current leadership position
•  Suspension from School
•  Referral to external agencies

Be aware that the offence records will be updated in the Ministry of Education School Cockpit
Student Offence Module (SOM). An accumulation of such records will have an impact on the student’s
conduct grade.
